PISCO 2005 Peru
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer PANCHO FIERRO
Clear colour. The nose is somewhat honeyed with some slightly peppery, caramel-tinged, spicy, sweetish marshmallow notes. Fairly dry, harmonious, spicy, somewhat viscous, bulrush flavours with a faint hint of sweetish honey. Pisco is as Peruvian as llamas and arroz con pollo. Peruvians hold a deep-seated national pride for Pisco, which they make [distill] from the cream of the grape harvest and have been drinking it at parties and festivals for over 400 years. This is only the second Peruvian Pisco to appear in Vintages since 2000. CSPC 55038000

"It's the name of a port city in Peru. But to a lot of folks, 'pisco' means only one thing: the fiery brandy that goes into the potent cocktail pisco sour. The region around Pisco (population, 130,000) has boasted a thriving pisco brandy industry, since the 16th century. But dip into the subject of pisco, and you'll get a crash course in the culture and history of both Peru and Chile. Both claim the pisco sour as their national drink and it's been a heated rivalry for more than a century". (Susan Farlow, The Toronto Star, Nov. 10, 2007) Price $ 26.95
