The Varnelli family has been making spirits in the picturesque Sibillini Mountains of Italy's Marche region for 140 years. This dry aniseed liqueur leapt onto the scene in 1950 and has been a staple for trendy bar chefs in Italy and elsewhere ever since. Look for aromas and flavours of fennel, dill and cumin with floral nuances. Serve it on the rocks, or neat and lightly chilled (particularly alongside an espresso), or in your favourite anise cocktail. Price $ 49.95
