RIDDLED SPARKLING 2009 Méthode Traditionnelle, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

FLAT ROCK CELLARS |
(Not presented at the press preview in the LCBO lab. A repeat - here is my previous tasting note: Light yellow colour. Intense, gently complex, slightly honeyed, faintly spicy, ripe lemon nose that has a faint whiff of sulphur. Fairly dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, fairly intense, apple-lemon puree flavours with a lingering, crisp, fairly toasty finish. Good effervescence and ready-to-drink. Comes with a crown cap. |

TASTING NOTE: Embrace the beer-bottle crown cap - it's how all Champagne rests in France's cellars to develop bubbles and flavour (before they're sealed and shipped out with mushroom corks). Though bone-dry over all, this fine sparkler comes with a suggestively sweet core reminiscent of cooked apples with a dab of butter. It's a pastry shop wine with good flavour depth and excellent balance. Score - 90 (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, Dec. 4, 2014) |
