Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

HENRY OF PELHAM |
Bright medium straw colour. Classy, bright, ripe lemon-apple nose with some slightly toasty notes. Very dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, ripe lemon-apple flavours with a lingering, very crisp, faintly toasty finish. Very good effervescence. This 12.5% alcohol is made from 100% estate Chardonnay that was 20% barrel fermented and aged a full 60 months in bottle before being disgorged. The recommended 2008 (***) was released on November 22, 2014 at $44.95. Very classy - better than some brands of Champagne. |

TASTING NOTE: This is a perennial favourite from a quality producer. Hand-harvested, 100% estate Chardonnay was gently whole-cluster pressed, 20% barrel fermented and aged a full 60 months in bottle before being disgorged. A profusion of fine-bead mousse fills the glass freeing delicate aromas of baking brioche, lemon rind and toasty notes. It's brisk and lively on the palate with a rush of ripe apple and pear garnished with racy grapefruit and peach skin. It's structured with excellent acidity, great attack on the palate finishing crisp and refreshing with wisps of flinty minerality. Score - 4.5 (out of 5) (Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, Sept. 1, 2015) |
