| Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, spicy, ripe black cherry nose with some cedar, sandalwood, and mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium bodied, gently juicy, harmonious, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, high acid, faintly cedary, mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. This repeat is similar to the recommended 2013 (**/**+) released on November 28, 2015 at $19.95. TONY ASPLER / 88.5-points / BEST BUY - Cedary, smoky, blackberry with vanilla oak; full-bodied, dry, fruity blackberry flavour with a chocolate note and a firm finish. This 14% alcohol blend of 94% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot was aged in 80% new French oak and has 3 g/L residual sugar. |

| TASTING NOTE: The 2013 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec is from Altamira, from the same vineyard where the Torrontés is grown. The wine ferments in a combination of rolling barriques, egg-shaped cement vats, oak vat and open barrels before being blended and put in barrels where the wine matures for 11 months. Some of the barrels have a higher toast level and it gives the wine a little bit of dark chocolate aromas that are quite popular, but to me standardizes the nose a little bit. But there is a nice core of violets and cherries, perfectly ripe, keeping the freshness, while the spice notes of cinnamon and vanilla are quite sweet and complemented by hints of smoke and licorice. The palate is very tasty, with pungent, penetrating flavors, fine-grained tannins and supple flavors. 2013 feels like a very nice vintage. Hold it for one more year to finish integrating those oak aromas. Drink: 2016-2020. Score - 90 (Luis Gutierrez, erobertparker.com, Aug. 2015) |
