SERIE A MALBEC 2014 Uco Valley, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ZUCCARDI
Very deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, ripe baked plum puree nose with some cedary notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, tangy, somewhat cedary, faintly herbal, mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. The 2012 (**) was released on March 21, 2015 at $16.95. TONY ASPLER / 87-points - Spicy, smoky nose of blackberries with a cedary note; full-bodied, dry, firmly structured, earthy black fruit flavours with evident alcohol. Has 14% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L16-029-113 on the back label. You can safely ignore the August 2015 90-point tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue which based on a different bottling (the 90-point score is also on the capsule of this new bottling). TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Malbec Serie A is sourced from different vineyards across the Valle de Uco (Tupungato, El Peral, Gualtallary, Vista Flore and La Consulta). The nose is extremely aromatic, all flowers and plants: it smells like the countryside. The most common plant in Mendoza and particularly in the Valle de Uco between the vineyards and the mountains is rockrose, and the wine really smells of rockrose and its sticky resinous leaves. The aroma is also found in many wines from the Douro in Portugal where the plant is also very abundant. This is basically unoaked, raw and a bit wild, making it really showy and captivating. The palate has the telltale tannins of the grape that are soft and round with a very welcomed, dry finish as I find many wines that are far too sweet in this price segment. Wild Malbec to buy by the case and have with the barbecue. Bravo! Drink: 2015 - 2018. Score - 90 (Luis Gutierrez, erobertparker.com, Aug. 2015) Price $ 16.95
