ARMAGNAC DE MONTAL HORS D'ÂGE AC Armagnac, France
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ARMAGNAC DE MONTAL
Medium golden orange amber colour. Intense, fairly spicy, slightly honeyed, ripe plum puree nose with lots of vanilla notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, ripe, plum-caramel flavours with a lingering, bright, harmonious, very faintly peppery, lingering , autumnal finish. This 100% Bas-Armagnac has 40% alcohol with lot number L11A16291DM on the back label. Last appeared in Vintages (***) with 90-points on April 18, 2015 at $89.95 and was an Explorer Selection. TASTING NOTE: Unlike Cognac, which is distilled twice to yield an arguably smoother and more polished spirit, Armagnac is distilled once, leaving behind more traces of flavour and a relatively robust profile. Long aging in wood softens the texture and can yield a rich, marvelously complex spirit. I love old Armagnac, and this one is superbly balanced, with nuances of pear and prune caressed by leather, vanilla and caramelized sugar. Savour it slowly on a cool autumn evening.
