| Bright medium straw colour. Intense, complex, toasty, very slightly spicy, lemon meringue nose with some mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, very slightly spicy, tangy, intense, ripe lemon flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, faintly toasty, slightly bitter, effervescent finish. Degorgement Nov 2015. A blend of three vintages (60% from 2011, and 20% each of 2009 and 2010) with 12.5% alcohol and 7 g/L residual sugar with lot number 20110015 on the back label. One of 55 NEW Vintages Release items. |

| TASTING NOTE: The NV Espumante Bruto Cuvée (Vértice) is a new concept: this is the first time this was made as a non-vintage wine. The release being reviewed can still be identified by the clearly marked disgorgement date on the back: November 2015. It is a blend of three vintages (60% from 2011, and 20% each of 2009 and 2010) and a variety of typical Douro grapes (for the newest vintage, principally 27% Touriga Franca, 37% Gouveio, 15% Malvasia Fina and 9% Viosinho, with smaller dollops of other local grapes). Tight and toasty, with a very slight oxidative hint for an interesting edge, this is beautifully conceived, one of the nicest \"Cuvées\" that I've yet seen. There's also a bit of smoke on the nose, but it folds into the whole nicely and fades steadily with air. The acidity allows this to grip the finish and linger. It is an excellent value, more complex and interesting than the typical sparkler in this price range. Score - 90 (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Feb. 7, 2016) |
