Clear colour. Odd, sweet, very peppery, Tequila-ish, sweet agave, licorice nose. Peppery, dry, slightly bitter and yet sweet anise flavours. The finish on the single bottle sampled was not attractive. |

Yeni Raki is known as the Turkish national drink (affectionately called ‘Lion’s Milk’ there). Somewhat similar to Arak, it is a distilled alcoholic beverage strongly aromatized with anise-seed. It may be enjoyed in a cocktail, but more commonly it is served with meze (Turkish hors d’œuvres and appetizers) such as Russian salad, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers dipped in garlic sauce, cold-cuts, fried vegetables, cold yogurt soup, shrimp, mussels in a vinaigrette. |
