The term 'sour mash' does not refer to the taste of the whiskey, but rather to the practice of holding a portion of the fermented mash from one batch to be used to start the fermentation of the next batch. In the case of this example from Michter's, there is a bit of a historical metaphor at work here as well. Michter's dates back to the 1750s but was relaunched in 1990 following financial difficulties that resulted in the distillery shuttering its doors in 1989. The Sour Mash Whiskey was once their best-selling product, but they didn't make it again until 2013. Now it's back and in high demand once again. You can expect to encounter a delicately oaked and easy-to-enjoy whiskey with a profound apple tone to the taste profile. Price $ 97.95
