RESERVE MALBEC 2014 Gualtallary, Tupungato, Uco Valley, Mendoza |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
FINCA SOPHENIA |
Very deep intense purple colour. Spicy, complex, warm ripe plum-cherry nose with some cedary, caraway notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, somewhat cedary, caraway-tinged finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L-7026-7046 on the back label. Unfortunately, the bottle served at the consultant’s tasting had tca cork taint. You can safely ignore the 93-point tasting note from May 20, 2016 appearing in the Vintages Catalogue which was based on a previous batch. |

Gualtallary is a tiny, increasingly popular wine growing area in the Uco Valley with soils defined by layers of limestone and chalk. Its wines are famously concentrated and mineral. TASTING NOTE: A tangy and flavorful wine with spice and dark berry character. Full and flavorful. Hints of tar. Long and characterful. Round tannins. A different experience. From a lower part of Gualtallary. Score - 93 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, May 20, 2016) |
