CABERNET ICEWINE 2014 VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES
For the second release in a row, this icewine was not presented at the press and/or consultants preview in the LCBO lab. Tasted Cuvee 2017 - here is my note: Medium-deep ruby red colour. Intense, slightly spicy, vibrant, fresh ripe fraises des bois (baby French wild strawberries) on the nose with a faint hint of tangy cassis. Sweet, medium bodied, perfectly balanced, faintly honeyed, intense, fresh wild strawberry and gentle nuances of cassis with a lingering, lifted, vibrant, fresh baby strawberry finish. Better and more harmonious today than when initially tasted a year ago. Has 9.5% alcohol and 239 g/L residual sugar. A REPEAT the recommended 2014 (***/***+) released on April 1, 2017 at $75.00. TASTING NOTE: Fresh strawberry jam nose with a light cedary-floral note (having lost the herbal note I detected when tasted last year): well-balanced, sweet but not too sweet, honeyed strawberry, flavour, good mouth-feel with enough acidity to sustain well on the palate. Simply the best red Icewine I've tasted in Ontario. Recommended by Vintage Assessments! A Best Buy. Score - 94.5 (Tony Aspler, vintageassessments.com, April 1, 2017) Price $ 79.95
