RESERVA ANCIENT MALBEC 2013 Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer VERSADO
Very deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, bright, cedary, slightly baked ripe blueberry-plum-cherry puree nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, rich, spicy, intense, somewhat hot, plum flavours with a lingering, fairly spicy, cedary, faint mocha-chocolate-tinged finish. This Malbec, which usually leans in a Bordeaux direction, is more intense, than usual and has a hefty 14.9% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. The more elegant 2012 (***) with 91-points was released on June 24, 2017 at $59.95. CSPC 316984

TASTING NOTE: Another hit from Versado! Owner and winemaking consultant Peter Gamble and Ann Sperling, and chief winemaker Roberto de la Mota have created a blockbuster Argentine red for the 2013 vintage. Made from the iconic Malbec grape, this wine underwent a spontaneous fermentation, rather than one induced by the winemaker with specific yeasts. The wine was aged in oak barrels. This is another gorgeous red wine from Versado - this wine and these winemakers perform consistently well every year. Aromas of fleshy black fruit, dried herbs, spices and pepper. Pair with grilled lamb or braised beef. Drink: 2018-2024. Score - 95 (Natalie MacLean, nataliemaclean.com, April 11, 2018) Price $ 59.95
