TASTING NOTE: Synonymous with perfection for over a century, Louis XIII is picked from the very best vineyards in Grande Champagne. A blend of the rarest and oldest eaux-de-vie, some of the barrels are 100 to 150 years old. These century old eaux-de-vie have been looked after by four successive generations of cellar masters who maintain the memory of the ages-old taste by blending more than a thousand eaux-de-vie together. (The Louis XIII cellars are thick with spider webs that help protect the old barrels from wood boring insects.) Deep, complex and brooding in style, the bouquet is rich and intense with old wood notes, mushrooms and leather yet also floral scents and spicy tones such as ginger and nutmeg. The taste lingers forever as does the bouquet even after the glass is drained. Score: 100 Score - 100 (Margaret Swaine, winealign.com, May 2, 2016) |
