Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Antinori |
Bright medium-deep straw colour. Intense, complex, slightly spicy, fairly toasty, extremely attractive, ripe lemon-apple meringue nose with some mineral-tinged notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, bright, slightly spicy, intense, ripe lemon meringue flavours with a lingering, tangy, fairly toasty, very high acid, rich, mouthfiling, key lime pie finish. This truly terrific Umbrian blend of 85% Chardonnay and 15% indigenous Grechetto has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L7173 on the back label. This Release Highlight is one of the the best Vintages release whites in 2018 and deserves to be tasted by all fans of classic Chardonnay. |

This winery's name honours the Monaldeschi della Cervara family, who was the historical owner of Castello della Sala in the 16th century. The wine itself, made by the iconic Marchesi Antinori and first produced in 1985, blends Chardonnay with the indigenous Grechetto grape and is one of the first Italian white wines to have malolactic fermentation and maturation take place in oak barriques. Look for an elegantly robust wine showing crunchy orchard fruit. |
