PICONE VINEYARD RIESLING 2015 VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Escarpment
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHARLES BAKER
Light straw colour. Intense, mineral-driven, slightly spicy, ripe lime-lemon-apple nose with lots of chalky, schisty notes. Fairly dry, medium-light bodied, fairly intense, lemon-melon-apple puree flavours with lots of mineral notes on the lingering, tangy, high acid, unoaked finish. Very nice but pricey, this REPEAT has 11.8% alcohol and 15 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. The 2015 (***) was last released on June 23, 2018 at $37.20. TONY ASPLER / 91-points / TRY - Honeyed grapefruit nose with a floral top note, already developing petrol aromas; light-bodied, off-dry, honey and grapefruit flavours with fresh acidity. Lovely mouth-feel. CSPC 241182

TASTING NOTE: Charles Baker has remained steadfastly focused on single vineyard riesling since 2006 when he launched his \"virtual\" label within the walls of Stratus winery, where Charles also works as marketing director. This is a very classy, complete, wild fermented dry riesling that captures generous, complex aromas of peach/pear, honeysuckle, some petrol and lemon. It is mid-weight, dry and seamless with impressive focus and depth. The length is excellent. Score - 92 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, June 14, 2018) Price $ 37.20
