HIMBEER BLACK FOREST RASPBERRY LIQUEUR Germany
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ALFRED SCHLADERER
Bright medium-deep red colour. Very sweet, spicy, honeyed, somewhat candied, intense, ripe raspberry jam nose. Extremely sweet, medium-light bodied, syrupy, very spicy, intense, raspberry jam flavours with a lingering, tangy, fairly high acid finish. This is very tasty liqueur would work well in a raspberry-inspired Kir. Remember that with only 24% alcohol, it is a not an eau de vie. Sadly it certainly does not compare with the remarkable 96-point best buy Schladerer Himbeergeist Black Forest Raspberry Eau-de-Vie which had 42% alcohol and cost only $38.95. I wish could recommend this liqueur - if only it was more competitively priced. At Liquorama the 750 ml bottle (more than double this bottle) of the liqueur goes for $34.99 US, while the eau-de-vie sells for $46.99. The liqueur is almost always much less expensive than the eau-de-vie! The lot number L441803 appears on the back label. CSPC 575241

TASTING NOTE: Focused aromas of fresh blackberry are strong. Sweet and tart in the mouth, there are flavors of fresh blackberry as well as black raspberry candy. A pleasant and aromatic sweetness is left in the mouth without any cloying sugary feeling. Excellent, Highly Recommended. Score - 91 (Ultimate Spirits Challenge, 2018) Price $ 39.95
