Linlithgow, just west of Edinburgh, was once a centre of malt-distilling in the Lowlands. It is an ancient town with a lovely loch and a ruined royal palace, in which Mary, Queen of Scots was born. Also known as St. Magdalene, Linlithgow Distillery was established in approximately 1765 and ceased production in 1983. 'Perfumy, grassy, smooth. Restorative' is how Michael Jackson, in his book Malt Whisky Companion, 4th Edition, 1999, described the house style. Another Scotch for that 'completionist' in your life. |
