LIQUEUR GRAPPA AND CAMOMILE Italy
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MAROLO MILLA
The LCBO refused to allow the accredited wine reviewers to taste this March 16 release. A REPEAT - here is my previous note that last appeared in Vintages (***) on November 24, 2018 at $64.95 and was Recommended Best Buy. Bright light olive green colour. Extremely intense, spicy, honeyed, herbal-sweetish chamomile nose with lots of vanilla-honeysuckle-licorice notes. Sweet, medium bodied, harmonious, very spicy, attractive, intense, chamomile-licorice flavours with a lingering, vanilla-cedar-tinged finish. Created by infusing chamomile blossoms in 35% alcohol Nebbiolo grappa. CSPC 211433

TASTING NOTE: Digestif, anyone? Or, rather, that should be digestivo, as the Italians would have it. This intriguingly chartreuse-green liqueur is made by infusing grappa - specifically distilled from Piedmontese nebbiolo grape pomace - with chamomile blossoms. There's considerable sweetness here, too, but the balance is spot-on. Think of peach- apricot syrup mixed with chamomile tea and punched up with the heady spice and bite of 35-per-cent alcohol.
