Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

CORTE MEDICEA |
Unable to get a bottle for assessment from agent and unwilling to waste my money on buying another sample. A REPEAT of the 2016 (*+/**) that was released on November 9, 2019 at $15.95. Here is my previous note: Deep purple colour. Slightly spicy, bright, plum-cherry purée nose with some sandalwood notes. Slightly off dry (10 g/L residual sugar), medium bodied, fairly juicy, harmonious, ripe, plum-cherry purée flavours with a lingering, gently tangy, fresh, unoaked finish. A ready-to-drink, entry-level, blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with 13.5% alcohol and 10 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L2929 on the back label. BEWARE: once again, the Vintages Catalogue quotes Luca Maroni’s inexplicably excessive OLD 96-point review (dated February 14, 2018). I am told that Luca Maroni deserves to be elevated to MWF status (Master of Wine Fiction). |

TASTING NOTE: (Translated from the Italian) Sensations: excels in density, smoothness and well-defined aroma. This is an excellent wine, majestic in consistence, roundly harmonious to the palate, with expressive non-oxidized clarity and scent. This is how the purple pulp of the grapes and blackberry jam is evoked, adding a spicy touch to enhance its aromatic and vanilla features to the nose. Sensory outcomes of superior pleasure. Score - 96 (Luca Maroni, lucamaroni.com, Feb. 14, 2018) |
