Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
The Balvenie Distillery/William Grant & Sons |
Medium gold colour. Sweet, rich, honeyed, attractive, rather smoky but manageable, caramelized flan and chocolate nose. Pungent, very dry and peppery on the palate with solid, caramelized plum flavours followed up by a lingering finish. Last appeared in Vintages on September 6, 2003 at $89.95 but was not presented for evaluation. |

The Balvenie ‘Single Barrel’ 15-year-old is taken from a single second-use Bourbon cask rather than the usual practice of blending with several barrels of the same age. This means that because every barrel imparts a different flavour, and though The Balvenie has a recognizable house style (which Michael Jackson describes as “the most honeyish of malts, with a distinctively orangey note. Luxurious.), each bottling will taste different each time out. |
