BOTTEGA ALEXANDER ALEX GRAPPA BIANCA Veneto
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Distilleria Bottega
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO as a personal holiday highlight. Family vintners since 1635, Distilleria Bottega was set up in 1977 by Aldo Bottega, a master distiller with over 30 years of experience. This crystal clear colourless triple-distilled “acqua di vita” is made by the use of Bottega’s specially designed copper pot stills along with specially selected pomace (the remains of grapes after pressing). The nose has lovely, fresh, floral notes along with an abundance of ripe pear and just a touch of fresh grass and hay. It’s dry, remarkably rounded and fresh on the palate with gently spicy, intense, ripe pear flavours and a lingering, lifted, smooth, gentle hay-tinged finish. Alex is a great sipping grappa that is both complex and elegant simultaneously. As opposed to the norm of 40%, it t has 38% alcohol and no residual sugar with lot number L05620 on the capsule. I like to serve it neat around 10ºC before dinner with smoked salmon and after dinner just by itself. As of today December 16th, there are 691 bottles in 50 stores including 282 in the Durham warehouse. CSPC 12048
