LOS PARAISOS BONARDA 2017 Unfiltered, single vineyard, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer EL ENEMIGO
The actual name of this grape is Douce Noir which originated in Savoie France is called Bonarda in Argentina. It has nothing to do with true Italian Bonarda. It’s juicy, fruity and usually low in tannin producing crowd-pleaser ready to drink reds. Extremely deep intense purple colour, the very attractive nose is slightly spicy, cedary, mocha-chocolate-tinged with intense, ripe, plummy-cassis fruit. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, spicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry-cassis purée flavours with a lingering, harmonious, lifted finish. Absolutely delicious and ready to drink, this Bonarda was unfiltered (after being fermented and aged in large 100-year-old foudres) which helps explain the richness on the palate. It has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with bottling number 3-21160 on the back label. This is the 96th Argentine Bonarda to be released in Vintages since 2004 and perhaps the best to date. You can find my notes on all of them on our paywall-free VA website database. CSPC 17286
