CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES VIDAL ICEWINE 2018 VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES
This newly-released 2018 has a very light yellow colour and a very attractive, sweet, honeyed, spicy, Seville orange marmalade nose with some faintly tropical, creme brulee notes. Sweet, medium bodied, smooth, spicy, honeyed, ripe apple-pear-tinged, Seville orange marmalade flavours with a lingering, lifted, warm, caramel finish. Winemaker Amelie Boury has come up with a splendid, surprisingly elegant, fresh, honeyed, harmonious 2018 Vidal Icewine with 9% alcohol, 206 g/L residual sugar and 7.9 g/L total acidity. The grapes were harvested on January 11, 2019 at 40.7 brix and it was bottled 5 months later on June 6, 2019. This perfectly ready-to-drink 2018 is a Vintages Essential and comes in a gift box. The 2019 released November 13, 2021 - 375 ml at $47.965), by comparison, is a keeper - richer and somewhat sweeter with more viscosity along with higher acidity and alcohol. CSPC 565861
