LLAMA OLD VINE MALBEC 2019 Estate bottled, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BELASCO DE BAQUEDANO
New in Vintages. It was a happy day for Ontario Malbec lovers when the folks at BELASCO DE BAQUEDANO received a LCBO order for 559 cases of this terrific 2019. It has an extremely deep intense dark purple colour and a very complex, woodsy nose loaded with ripe Damson plums and cassis under a blanket of warm, earthy, Llama-inspired aromatics. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, dense, rich, plum-balck-cherr-cassis flavours with a lingering, grippy, bright, tar-tinged, cedary finish. Great mouthfeel and perfect with smoky bbq ribs. Aged for six months in French oak and has 14.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21259 on the back label. This batch was bottled on September 16, 2021, well after James Suckling’s 92-point score (on April 2, 2020) appearing in the Vintages Catalogue. It seems that he just about got it right. CSPC 21993
