TASTING NOTE: Finca Mantrax is located in the Los Chacayes zone, about 1,300 meters above sea level in the Uco Valley. Its soils are characterized as being rich in stones, all of colluvial origin. That, plus the cool mountain climate make the malbec from this area a bit wild. According to Clara Roby, Elodia's winemaker, they have to be very careful with the extraction to prevent the tannins from becoming indomitable or overly biting. In this case, the tannic pressure is evident, along with the force of its fruity expression. This is a sharp photograph of place in a warm year that seems to have given the fruit an extra sweetness. A wine to keep in the cellar [till 2028+]. Score - 95 (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2021) |
