AMRUT FUSION SINGLE MALT WHISKY India Whisky |

AMRUT |
I discovered Amrut about a decade ago and was amazed. This new current Fusion edition with 50% alcohol is their most popular single malt. It's a unique blend of imported peated Scottish barley and unpeated locally grown Indian barley. The results are terrific. It has a deep gold colour and an intense, complex, honeyed, gently peaty nose with spicy, smoky, citrusy notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, very well structured, intense, fairly alcoholic (in a very nice way), powerful albeit quite rounded, mellow, honeyed, smoke-tinged, lifted. malty flavours that go on and on followed up by a delicious, lingering, faintly floral, citrusy finish. I love it neat at room temperature in my ISO glass - no ice/ no water. Made from unpeated 6-row Indian barley with imported peated 2-row Scottish barley, the Indian and Scottish malts are processed and aged separately for about four years. The two batches are then married and aged for a further year at an average alcohol strength of about 65%. It is brought down to 50% prior to bottling and has 10-12 ppm peat. A bit tricky to find - currently only 404 bottles in 52 stores - but it is well worth the effort. The batch at the LCBO has lot number B.Np. 105 - Aug2021 on the back label. |
