| The non-Vintages edition of a sensational 12-year-old Barbados Rum appeared out of nowhere in the first week of November. Initially in just a very few stores at a time, it popped up here and there usually just a few cases at a time and quickly disappeared. I bought this bottle on Saturday, Nov 5 at Summerhill and it was all gone by the next day. It has a medium orange-amber colour and an extraordinarily rich, honeyed, spicy nose with buttered toast, flan and caramel. It is dry, intense, well structured, rich and spicy with a lovely harmony and texture. And yet it's penetrating, bright, very faintly tropical, Demerara sugar flavours combine with some faintly citrusy, peppermint notes on the lingering, finish. Just wonderful to sip, this treasure is a repeat of the equally delicious and scare release (#15675) that appeared last year. It has 48% alcohol and has no sugar or other flavours added. |
