Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |

This blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot has an extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, mature, prune, plum, lead pencil nose. Complex, mature, dry, medium-full bodied, extracty, plummy, prunes and stewed cherry fruit with a long, lingering, cedar-sandalwood finish. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2001 San Leone, an unusual blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot, is even richer and riper in aroma, very tarry and licorice-laden, dense and almost chewy in texture, very mineral from the contribution of Petit Verdot, muscular, weighty, and with an important future potential. The tannins are just beginning to unwind, and I would suggest drinking this wine between 2007 and 2018. Score - 91. (Daniel Thomases, www.erobertparker.com, April 2006) |
